Human/Environmental Interaction
In South Asia, humans have had to adapt to the environment. The Ganges and the Feni Rivers are important to the region, but they also provide unsanitary water that makes many people ill. The people of South Asia have had to adapt to this issue and find other ways to get clean water. The weather in the region also makes adaptation a necessity. For example, in Afghanistan, it is very mountainous and temperatures can go as low as -58 degrees Fahrenheit. In Bangladesh, the temperature can get up to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. These two extremes within South Asia make it essential for people to adapt to the weather. The climate of the region is also very different so people living in certain areas must be aware of issues they might run into. |
Movement
In every region, there is movement. More recently, fashion has started to move through the region. More and more people that live in South Asia are starting to wear western-style clothes. The people of this region are being influenced by media from the United States and parts of Europe. Another fad that is popular is the movie industry. Every year, Bollywood (in India) is producing about 2,500 movies. South Asia has also picked up the factory industry. A lot of goods are made in South Asia and then exported to the United States and other places around the world. Another trending issue is the Asian Highway project. Throughout the region, many of the countries are working to improve their highway systems. Within South Asia, there are always new ideas and projects that countries are working on to improve the region.

Region
There are three basic types of regions: formal regions, functional regions, and vernacular regions. South Asia's formal region is the countries that make up South Asia. These were previously mentioned under the "location" section. The functional region of South Asia would be the city versus the country. The region itself is so large that it is difficult to define just one or two specific functional regions. Within the cities though, there are several functional regions, such as the airport. Lastly, the vernacular region of South Asia is unique. Since Asia is such a large continent, it is broken up into vernacular regions. South Asia serves as its own vernacular region.
