Regional Conflicts
Conflicts within South Asia
In South Asia, there are some conflicts throughout different countries. One conflict that almost every country in the region deals with is the border. Adjacent countries argue that the borders are not correctly defined and they try to have them changed constantly. Although this issue seems to be a small detail, it has caused some major issues between some of the South Asian countries. Two countries in the region that do not get along are India in Pakistan. The two countries have a history of feuds, beginning with the Kashmir dispute. Over the years, they have fought several ways. More recently, in 2001, the Indian Parliament attack almost brought the two nations to a nuclear war. In 2007, there was the Samjhauta Express bombings that killed 68 civilians. In 2008, the Mumbai attacks resulted in a breakdown of the ongoing India-Pakistan peace talks. Another issue that was mentioned under political issues is the War on Terror between Pakistan and Afghanistan. There are issues throughout the region, but for the most part, the countries in South Asia are able to be civil and get through conflicts that arise.
